Models of plants | Fondazione Scienza e Tecnica (Firenze)

Description: Models of plants, made for teaching purposes by the Brendel Company of Germany between the late Nineteenth Century and the beginning of the Twentieth Century.  When they were produced, these models were renowned across Europe and America for their accuracy and usefulness in the classroom. The models have been recently restored and moved from storage to display area. The display case was repainted in December 2017 with a polyurethane paint.

Materials: The models are made of an array of materials including: wood, glass beads, feathers, cotton fabric with plaster, papier-mâché, vegetable and animal fibres, resins, pigments, starch, and a polymeric material, which spectra fit with that of urea-formaldehyde.

Monitoring: Within the context of the EU funded APACHE project, our partner Fondazione Scienza e Tecnica will monitor, collect, analyse and report on environmental data collected in this large size showcase and outside it.

Protection container: Large display case made of composite wood and glass. Not climate controlled, not sealed.
